GFG Alliance presence receives a positive response

18 September 2024

Whyalla’s GFG Alliance operations were on show and the green iron and steel vision outlined at the recent 2024 TACTIC Conference & Trade Expo in Port Augusta.

The LIBERTY Primary Steel (LPS), SIMEC Mining Iron Ore and Ferretti engineering operations set up stalls at the 20th annual event to engage with the hundreds of resource, manufacturing and energy representatives from throughout the Upper Spencer Gulf of South Australia and beyond.

At the two-day event, attended by South Australian Minister for Infrastructure and Transport and Energy and Mining Tom Koutsantonis, GFG’s Project Lead in the Chairman’s Industrial Planning Office, Martin Coetzee was a keynote speaker on Day 1.

There is a genuine interest in what is happening in Whyalla and the Upper Spencer Gulf with this conference and a good opportunity to showcase our operations and further outline our future aspirations

Martin outlined GFG Alliance’s green iron and steel transformation while explaining the opportunities that exist, underpinned by eight key features, for the potential to produce direct reduced iron and green steel from GFG’s expanding magnetite operations.

Coordinator of the Whyalla presence at the conference, LPS Strategic Sourcing Manager Colby Krawczyk declared the event an outstanding success and said the GFG Alliance presence was well received with extensive engagement, valuable contacts and great feedback.

“This year we had a broad representation of the Whyalla business giving us great ability to cover most aspects of our operations including BAU and intimate knowledge of our many projects. We hope to further extend this coverage at future events.” Colby said.

LPMA CEO Sandip Biswas said the Whyalla operations belonged at a conference attended by some of the bigger players in the respective industries and government while illustrating the integral part LPMA businesses will play in South Australia’s exciting future.

“Our stand and Martin’s presentation on the main stage showed we are part of this vision for our region and that our goals and aspirations align with the State Government’s State Prosperity Project and Hydrogen Jobs Plan,” Sandip said.

“There is a genuine interest in what is happening in Whyalla and the Upper Spencer Gulf with this conference and a good opportunity to showcase our operations and further outline our future aspirations.”

The TACTIC Conference & Trade Expo (formerly called Global Maintenance Upper Spencer Gulf) is presented by an independent member-driven organisation that fast tracks the linking of local supplier capability to major project proponents and supports success through supply chain integrity through a trusted source of regional intelligence to all levels of government and business.
