Production of structural/rail at the Whyalla Steelworks is forging ahead with a ramp up to full capacity since the restart in July.
Since July, the rolling mill has produced 45 kilotons of steel, which is roughly enough to fill the Adelaide Oval.
The 15 structural/rail sections will be used in crucial large-scale products right across the country.
“We are the only manufacturer of rail in Australia and we are dedicated to continuing the tradition, of supplying nation building projects with rail made right here in Whyalla as best we can,” LIBERTY Primary Steel Managing Director Tony Swiericzuk said.
“We have continued to meet our rail customer’s needs through this challenging year and are well underway in replenishing stock through chain inventory, so we can continue to meet anticipated demand despite the ongoing challenges we face.
“Our decision to align the delivery of the Direct Reduction Plant with our Electric Arc Furnace best positions us to offer green iron and steel to our major rail customers in the future.”
