The LIBERTY Primary Steel Whyalla Steelworks is back to normal operations with the Rolling Mill returning to production this morning.

LIBERTY Primary Steel Managing Director, Tony Swiercizuk said the final piece of the process had run smoothly with the very first trial bar processed, measured within tolerance, and cleared as product.

“This is a fantastic final milestone in what has been a long and often frustrating recovery journey since the planned maintenance shutdown of the Blast Furnace which began in March,” Tony said.

“We were also finally able to successfully connect Blast Furnace tap hole #1 this morning – a remarkable achievement.”

Tony paid tribue to the team at Whyalla for its tireless work on the blast furnace and throughout the steelworks to get back to production.

“Their commitment is deeply appreciated and it is thanks to all that we have been able to overcome the significant challenges of the past few months,” Tony said.
