Have your say on our environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices

Survey will help enhance our journey towards sustainability

14 March 2024

GFG’s Whyalla operations – Liberty Primary Steel and SIMEC Iron Ore Mining– are continuing their journey towards enhancing their sustainable environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices for its operations.

A wide range of stakeholders both internal and external to GFG are being asked to take part in a short sustainability survey – as part of a formal process called a Materiality Assessment.

Materiality is the principle of defining the environmental, social and governance topics that matter most to a business and its stakeholders.

This is a chance for everyone – our employees and our many stakeholders outside the business – to help us understand what is most important to them, and what they think we should be focusing our effort on

A vital aspect of the assessment is gathering inputs from a broad stakeholder base, to understand what issues are important. Stakeholders range from employees, contractors, customers, suppliers, governments and the communities in which we operate.

To help gather these inputs, GFG is asking a range of these stakeholders to take part in a short 5-minute online survey.

GFG has said it is critical to understand which are the most important issues to their local stakeholders, and this survey is an important tool to help collect a broad range of inputs.

This is a chance for as many stakeholders as possible inside and outside the business – to help us understand what is most important to them, and what they think we should be focusing our effort on.  We can’t assume we know what is important to others, so we need to ask.

The insights we collect will be invaluable to us and will help us prioritise the ESG sustainability issues that are most significant to our stakeholders and our company.

We have a commitment to sustainable performance and this process will further inform our sustainability strategy and the actions that flow from it.

To take the 5-minute survey, click on this link: LPMA Stakeholder Sustainability Survey.

There are no right or wrong answers – it is your own personal view of which of the short list of issues you think are the most critical. All responses will be kept internal, names are not required, and data will be aggregated before being used.

The survey closes on Friday 22nd March.
