Advocates for Whyalla’s environment and sustainability
15 March 2023
Whyalla’s Environment Consultation Group (ECG) is seeking new community members to join the group and be an advocate for Whyalla’s environment and long-term sustainability.
The group has been a key source and conduit for honest and constructive feedback to the Whyalla Steelworks and Middleback Ranges Mining operations for about 20 years. The group is looking to fill two vacant (2) positions and is inviting members of the community to nominate.
The group meets regularly throughout the year and represents a cross-section of the Whyalla community.
The group is chaired by Eddie Hughes MP and consists of local community and business representatives with representation from other key bodies including the EPA, Whyalla City Council, Eyre Peninsula Landscape Board, and GFG Alliance.
We are looking for community members with a good knowledge of local environmental issues and a passion for Whyalla
Eddie Hughes
One of the group’s key functions is to provide an ongoing forum and communication exchange regarding environmental issues of relevance to GFG Alliance and the local community. The forum also provides opportunities for third party companies or organisations to consult with the group when seeking feedback in relation to Whyalla developments or issues.
“We are looking for community members with a good knowledge of local environmental issues and a passion for Whyalla. The ECG plays a vital role in representing the community’s interests as well as raising awareness and understanding of environmental issues among locals.” said Eddie Hughes, Chair of the group.
