Calling all former coke ovens employees!

Farewell event on Saturday 7 October in Whyalla

4 September 2023

LIBERTY Primary Steel is on a search for all former coke ovens employees to invite them to a “Farewell” to the Whyalla Coke Ovens event on Saturday 7 October at the Westland Hotel in Whyalla.

To be joined by the most recent coke oven employees (who have all been redeployed in the steelworks), former employees will be treated to a trip down memory lane and will be presented with a memento for their time working on the coke ovens.

The closure of the coke ovens at the GFG Alliance operation on September 15 this year, follows the announcement in April, by Executive Chairman Sanjeev Gupta, that a contract had been signed for an Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) at the Whyalla Steelworks. The EAF will run on electrical energy and will replace the existing coke-fed blast furnace.

See invite below and RSVP to managingdirector@libertygfg.com or call Di Hugo 0456 024 398 by Friday 6 October 2pm and let us know what years you worked on the coke ovens.

If you know any other past employees who worked on the coke ovens, please pass this information on to them.
